affixed to the reverse, inscribed "for Worcester" on the stretcher.
Oil on canvas, 35 x 28 in. (88.9 x 71.1 cm),framed.
Condition: Strip lined, retouch, mild craquelure.
N.B. Douglas Volk was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, son of sculptor Leonard Volk. After studying in both Italy and Paris, Volk returned to the United States where he founded the Minneapolis School of Fine Arts. He also taught in New York at the Cooper Institute, Art Students League, and National Academy of Design. Volk eventually settled in Maine, purchasing land along Kezar Lake. He built five cottages by the lake, including one that served as his studio.
