Four Hayes Administration White House China Fish Plates, designed by Theodore R Davis, made by Haviland & Co., Limoges, France, c. 1880, ribbed scallop rimmed plates, each painted with a fish in a naturalistic scene, the underside of the rim with an American eagle and shield, maker's marks on base including two Haviland & Co. marks, designer's name, and patent date "Aug. 10 1880," (unobtrusive 1/2 x 3/4 in. repaired rim chip on plate with fish and holly, (fourth plate from left),very tiny unobtrusive rim nick on plate third from left). dia. 8 3/8 in.
