Roses and Red
Signed "Laura Hills" l.r., identified on a label from Doll & Richards, Inc., Boston,
affixed to the reverse.
Pastel on paper/board, sight size 11 1/2 x 10 1/2 in. (29.2 x 26.6 cm),framed.
Condition: Split to support, not examined out of frame.

N.B. Although Hills was first known for her portrait miniatures, she later studied flowers and recorded their "portraits" in pastel. She continued to create these floral still lifes until her last exhibition at age eighty-eight. In these works, she played with bright colors and asymmetrical compositions.

Provenance: A private New England collection.

There is a horizontal split in the support near the top edge (just passing through the upper-most leaf). Although it has not been removed from its frame, there are no other visible condition issues to report.
