N.B. One of the most renowned sculptors of the 20th century, Alexander Calder produced both mobiles (moving sculptures) and stabiles (stationary sculptures). Ranging in media, color, and size, his abstract sculptures challenged perceptions of movement, space, and time. These works were intended to be organic objects, representing natural and random elements in the world, and were often produced without any preparatory work. This drawing is a rare example of a preliminary sketch for a sculpture. The work depicted here has not been located.
Estimate $15,000-25,000
