Two Hand-Crafted Portrait Dolls, "Lillee" and "Margery", possibly by Martha Chase or the Arts and Crafts Society of Boston, early 20th century, with thickly-applied sculpted blonde hair, closed mouths, Lillee with blue eyes, Margery with brown, on stockinette bodies with molded and painted arms and legs, both dressed in period cotton clothes, ht. 20 1/4 in. and 21 1/2 in., (some paint loss and repaint).
Provenance: From the family of the original owners in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Accompanying the lot is a short letter that tells the history of these dolls and the children who played with them.
