N.B. American Impressionist Dwight Blaney was born in Brookline, Massachusetts, in 1865. He excelled as both a draftsman and antiques specialist, and subsequently traveled to Europe to paint. His close friend, American painter John Singer Sargent, encouraged Blaney to pursue his artistic desires and even incorporated the budding artist in his later works, often views of Ironbound Island in Maine. Blaney's subtle use of light to create vivid texture and volume pays homage to one of his greatest idols, French Impressionist Claude Monet.
