Chippendale Birch Carved Side Chair, possibly New Hampshire, late 18th century, the serpentine molded crest rail centering carved leafage against a punched background continuing to scrolled terminals, on raking molded styles and a pierced scroll-carved gothic splat, on trapezoidal slip seat and molded Marlborough legs with pierced brackets and molded square stretchers, old surface, ht. 37 1/2, seat ht. 17 in.
Provenance: Roland Hammond, North Andover, Massachusetts; Brass plaque on front seat rail engraved: "From Wadsworth Longfellow House, Portland, Me."
