Small Paint-decorated Pine Six-board Chest, Lebanon, New Hampshire, c. 1830-40, the hinged top above a box resting on cutout ends, original mustard and brown vinegar putty paint, (minor imperfections),ht. 21 3/4, wd. 39 1/4, dp. 16 in.
Provenance: The Weiss' obtained this chest from Eric Nesbitt of Woodstock, Vermont, who passed it to them after purchasing it from the son the well-known picker "Stubb" Whitney. Whitney's son had held the chest as the last item he retained from his father, but decided to part with it in the early 1990s.
Note: A pencil inscription on the upper stretcher reads "The Unity Club Painting."
