Hill," "Engraved by Himly"; 1855, identified in inscriptions in the matrix, large hand-colored engraving proof on paper, image size 28 5/8 x 50 3/8 in., matted, and mounted in a contemporary molded wood frame. Condition: Repaired tears and abrasions, some in image, not examined out of frame.

Large extensive repaired tear at upper edge, rt. of center down to between the R and K in York, lower portion of tear spreading over and U-shaped to two foreground vessels, but not into steam vessel, several scattered repaired abrasions with retouch (mainly in sky, a few areas on vessel sails),repairs to several areas on margins with repaired tears, losses and white pigment.
*Examination out of frame: No engraving plate indentations evident, probably a lithograph. Other inscriptions read: "Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1855 by F.& G.W. Smith in the clerks office of the southern District of New York."; "Painted by McQueen London"; "London Paul & Dominic Colnaghi & Co. 13 &14 Pall Mall East. Paris Fois Delarue J.J. Rousseau 18.";
-Paper laid onto thin cardboard backing, hinged at the top.
-Top margin: 1 1/2 in. + 1/4 or more about 6 in. of paper tape reinforcing u. rt. and left. edges.
-Right margin: 1 1/4 in or more.
-Left Margin: 1 1/2 in.
-Bottom margin from image edge to edge of paper 4 1/8 in.
