Mourning Picture Locket. Unsigned. Black ink on ivory, c. 1800, depicting a woman grieving beside an urn-topped monument inscribed "L. Hall died Nov. 30th 1783, Aged 37. Lucy Hall died May 12th 1791, Aged 20. Sally Hall died March 17th, Aged 18. Sam'l Hall died May 9th 1793, Aged 26." and "Heaven has in Store this Sacred trust;" the monument flanked by weeping willow trees, the glass bezel with reverse-painted tasseled swag border, 2 1/4 x 1 7/8 in., mounted in an oval copper locket frame. Condition: Very good.
