Hide Covered Dome-top Box, America, 19th century, the rectangular box with leather hinge and handle, iron latch, embellished with brass tack decoration, a brass tag affixed to the lid engraved "James Davis" and impressed with a small eagle and "Springfield 1834," ht. 6 3/8, wd. 12 1/4, dp. 7 in. Note: James Davis was a gunsmith in Springfield , Massachusetts.
