Attributed to Rufus Porter (American, 1792-1884)

Miniature Profile Portrait of a Woman, c. 1820. Unsigned. Watercolor on paper, depicting a bust-length profile of a woman wearing a gray-blue dress with a lace ruff at the neck, beaded gold necklace and tortoiseshell combs in her upswept hair, 4 x 3 1/8 in., in an embossed brass-over-wood frame with oval aperture. Condition: Light toning, small stains.

Note: An inscribed note accompanying the portrait reads "Amy Hale/Born Nashua/ Daughter of Abraham Hale Amy Adams, Thomas Moore Married." Also accompanying the portrait are three unframed hollow-cut, bust-length silhouette portraits of two ladies and a gentleman.
