Six-Light Brass Chandelier, hanging ring above baluster shaft with large ball-and-ring drop issuing six S-shape branches supporting ring-turned candlecups with drip pans, (one branch with repair, electrified, candlecups and drip pans pierced for wiring),total ht. from later brass ceiling mount and chain to bottom ring 28 1/2, dia. 19 5/8 in.

Note: Ralph Carpenter Jr. a noted preservationist, collector, consultant, and author, built Mowbra Hal in 1950-51, a house that resembles a mid-18th century dwelling both inside and out, by assembling sections of 18th century rooms from houses being demolished in New England coastal towns. Accompanying the lot are photocopies of two periodical articles both written by Ralph Carpenter Jr. One is entitled "Mowbra Hall and a Collection of Period Rooms," reprinted from The Connoisseur, June and August, 1972. In it he writes about the process of finding the appropriate accoutrements to furnish the house. "Hardware, hinges, latches and brass locks, of the proper size, were acquired from all available sources and put in good working order. Lighting is more difficult. It comes down to finding chandeliers and wall sconces of many different styles that are of the period and not reproductions." This chandelier is photographed in situ on p. 17. The other article is from an issue of The Magazine Antiques from May, 1952. It is entitled "Mowbra Hall-An 'Eighteenth-Century' Dwelling House."
