Kerouac, Jack (1922-1969), Letter signed, May 17th, 1965, one page, to Jacques and Lois Sorrells, containing an eleven-line excerpt from a story and commenting on life, promotion, and work, "I can just see the shabby literary man...a whole gray career of proving himself to others...my work itself stopped dead at the level where I took to proving myself. So, I say, life is too sweet to waste on self propaganda, I quit self promotion, I enter my page...I really wanta (sic) dig into my art like a maniac and pay no attention to promotion (which everybody wants me to do...what a waste of a sweet life!). And lissen (sic) here, Lois, my babies are my books! Dont (sic) make fun of my babies!...I hide my Florida address from everybody...big silly young hoods keep looking for me from coast to coast," signed "Jack" and with holograph date and postscript.
