Painted Cherry Blanket Chest, attributed to Jeremiah Stahl (b. Sept. 30, 1830-d. May 12, 1907),Soap Hollow, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, 1868, red ground with gold and black decoration, lift-top with molded edge, facade decorated with stenciled basket of fruit, floral, and compass decoration, initialed "S.H." and dated 1868; two split drawers below with wooden pulls and banded with reeded molding and resting on bracket base with gold stenciled eagles and stylized foliage, ht. 23 1/2, wd. 48, dp. 19 in.
