Twelve-Keyed Presentation Bugle, Eldridge G. Wright, Boston, 1854, the one-piece single-loop silver body, the cartouche at bell engraved PRESENTED TO, DH CHANDLER, BY HIS, FRIENDS IN PORTLAND ME, 1854, MADE BY EG WRIGHT BOSTON, the bell garland engraved with flower motifs and tendrils, the leadpipe engraved in a floral pattern, the twelve round key heads with pointed centers mounted on heart-shaped footplates, the silver tone-hole rims with engraved leaf pattern soldered to body.

One of approximately thirteen surviving presentation instruments by E. G. Wright designed for virtuosi, this keyed bugle was presented as a gift in appreciation to Daniel H. Chandler, founder and director of Chandler’s Band, of Portland, Maine, organized in 1833 and now believed to be the second oldest professional performing band in continuous service in the United States. Under Chandler's leadership the band developed into one of the finest performing groups of its kind. In 1861, Chandler's Band entered into the service of the Union Army until the end of the Civil War, performing at Harper’s Ferry, and furnishing music for the 1st, 10th, 25th, and 29th Maine regiments.
