Portrait of the 1893 America's Cup Contenders Vigilant and Valkyrie. Signed "Frank H. Schell" l.l., vessels identified in title below. Watercolor on paper, sight size 14 3/8 x 23 1/2 in., matted and framed. Condition: Repaired tear.
Note: Francis Schell was a newspaper illustrator and lithographer who became a noted illustrator of the Civil War for Frank Leslie's Illustrated News with over 200 pictures published. After the war he became head of Leslie's art department.
