Needlework Adam and Eve Sampler, "Henrietter Maria Love 1792," probably England, worked in multicolored silk threads on linen with an inspirational verse "Fragrant the Rose is but fades in Time the Violet Sweet but quickly past the Prime White Lillies Hang their heads and Soon Decay and [?] Snow In Minutes Melts away such and so Withering are Our early Joys which time or Sickness's Specially Destroys" above the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, with the serpent encircling the trunk flanked by Adam and Eve, surrounded by various motifs including lions, baskets of flowers, peacocks, dogs and others, flowering vine border, (scattered thread loss, toning),16 x 12 in., framed.
