Pair of Pewter Fluid Lamps, by Ephraim Capen of Brook Farm, West Roxbury, Massachusetts, c. 1844-45, acorn-shaped fonts on baluster stems and domed bases, impressed "BROOK FARM" on base, (lacking burners, drilled for electrification),ht. 7 7/8 in.

Note: Brook Farm was a planned Utopian community in West Roxbury, Massachusetts, near Boston. It was founded in 1841 by Reverend George Ripley, a Unitarian minister, and his wife Sophia. Its members owned a share of the community and divided their time between agricultural, artistic, and scholarly pursuits. Several religious and literary figures were associated with the community including Bronson Alcott, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Horace Greeley. Suffering a devastating fire in 1846, the community closed its doors in 1847.
