Joseph Honore Maxime Pellegrin (French, 1793-1869)

Cadmus of Boston, George Brown. Signed and dated "Hre Pellegrin a Marseilles an. 1829" l.r., shown from the starboard weather side with French brigantine in the distance under her bow. Mixed media including watercolor, gouache, and graphite on paper, sight size 17 1/2 x 23 3/4 in., in a Rococo Revival gilt gesso frame. Condition: Crease along entire lower edge, scattered stains and foxmarks, overall toning, not examined out of frame.

N.B. The vessel was built in 1816 in Medford, Massachusetts by Thatcher Magoon for Benjamin Rich of Boston.
