Description:

Silk Needlework and Watercolor Picture of Mount Vernon, America, early 19th century, the solidly stitched view of the country estate with the General standing on the porch over looking the hand painted Potomac River with sailing vessels in sight, extending to the pink and blue sky, the foreground having two ladies and a groomsman with hand painted features, a horse and playful colt among flowers and tall grasses, foliate trees and shrubbery complete the picture, framed, 20 x 24 1/2 in.

Provenance: From a private needlework collection.

N.B. This work was done from a line engraving by Samuel Seymour (1796-1823), inscribed "Mount Vernon, The Seat of the Late Gen. G. Washington, Drawn by W. Birch, Engraved by S. Seymour, Philadelphia, Published March 15, 1812."
