Description:

German Enamel Carriage Clock, Andreas Huber, Munich, late 19th century, platform escapement with bell and alarm, the case of typical form, set to all sides with enameled panels depicting courting couples, front panel with putti and doves, enclosing round dial signed "Andreas Huber, Hofuhrmacher, Mnchen," above subsidiary alarm dial, ht. to top of handle 5 1/2 in. Note: The prestigious and eponymous clock-making firm of Andreas Huber was founded in 1856. In the 1860s, King Ludwig II ordered several costly clocks, likely accounting for the firm's title of "Hofuhrmacher," or "Court Clockmaker." The firm is still in existence in Munich.
