Amoskeag Xtra Size 1 Steam Fire Engine, by the American Locomotive Works, Manchester, New Hampshire, No. 779, with double crane-neck frame, lg. 24 ft. 9 in. Provenance: Built in 1905 for Lynn, Massachusetts, this engine was originally horse-drawn, was converted to motorized at some point, and then returned to horse-drawn. Its first designation was as Engine No. 4 and later became No 6. It was found in the South approximately twenty years ago, has been displayed in the former Boston Woven Hose Company factory in Kendall Square, Cambridge, and was recently donated by the building owners to the Boston Fire Museum. To be sold in situ, viewing may be arranged prior to the auction by contacting Skinner. The maker's plate has been removed for security purposes, and will be available at the auction. Removal of the engine, at the buyer's risk and expense, must be arranged within thirty days of the sale.
