Chippendale Carved Mahogany Looking Glass, England, 18th century, the scrolled and carved crest with incising in outline and a central plinth above a veneered molded and parcel-gilt mirror surround over the similarly carved and scrolled pendant, old surface, (losses),ht. 37 1/2 in. Provenance: Direct family descent from Jonathan Buffum of Salem, Massachusetts, whose marriage to Anna Purington was recorded there in 1778. Anna's married and maiden names are recorded, along with 1778, on the reverse of the backboard. N.B. Early family genealogical papers accompany this lot.
