Chippendale Mahogany Oxbow Chest, Massachusetts, 1770-80, the reverse serpentine top with end-blocking and a molded edge overhangs a conforming case of drawers with beaded edges and similar end-blocking above a heavy molded base and ogee bracket feet, old refinish, replaced brass, (restored),ht. 32 1/4, case wd. 35, overall wd. 39 3/4, case dp. 19 3/4 in. Provenance: This chest originally belonged to Edward Little of Auburn, Maine. Little established and endowed an academy in Auburn, later the grounds and funds were donated to the town of Auburn to become "The Edward Little High School."
