Chippendale Mahogany Carved High Chest of Drawers, associated with John Goddard and Job Townsend, Newport, Rhode Island, 1760-80, the enclosed scrolled pediment centering a fluted plinth surmounted by urn and flame finials above two applied plaques over two short and three long graduated thumb-molded drawers set into a lower case of one long and three short drawers above a cyma curved skirt centering a carved shell, above frontal cabriole legs ending in ball and claw feet, and similar rear legs ending in pad feet, old replaced brasses, refinished, (repairs),ht. 84, wd. 39, dp. 20 1/2 in. Provenance: The highboy descended in the family of Nellie B. Greenough, who began collecting early American furniture around the time of the Centennial.
